Nebraska reopens BEAD bidding after three preliminary awardees decline subgrant contracts

The Nebraska Broadband Office confirmed on May 22, 2026 that three preliminarily awarded ISPs declined to sign their BEAD subgrant contracts, citing changes to their business plans, leaving about 1,735 locations (12% of the state's eligible sites) unfunded and prompting a new application round. The state did not officially name the three providers, but reporting from Light Reading and the Nebraska Examiner identified them, by comparing the final proposal's award list to the seven providers whose signed agreements NBO did announce, as Amazon Kuiper (now Amazon Leo), Northeast NE Telephone Co., and Pinpoint Communications.

Providers named: Amazon, Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company, Pinpoint Communications
