Washington state signs seven BEAD broadband grant contracts with ISPs
Washington's broadband office announced it has signed contracts with seven internet service providers under the BEAD program, marking the start of funds flowing to subgrantees in the state. The move follows years of preparatory work on Washington's BEAD plan.
What this means for BEAD compliance
The seven ISPs that signed BEAD subgrant agreements with Washington's broadband office, and the state broadband office administering them.
Execution of these subgrant agreements starts active_deployment obligations for all seven awardees, including construction permitting, Buy America compliance, procurement and contractor oversight standards, and cybersecurity/SCRM equipment restrictions. Financial reporting clocks now begin, requiring expenditure tracking, non-federal cost share documentation, and internal controls sufficient to support eventual single audits. Providers must also begin network build-out subject to NEPA/environmental screening and later performance obligations (speed, latency, outage limits) once service is live, so compliance teams should establish monitoring and documentation systems immediately rather than wait for construction milestones.
