Pennsylvania awards over $448M in BEAD funds across 50 counties

Governor Shapiro and the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority announced more than $448 million in initial BEAD funding to expand high-speed internet access, supporting projects in 50 counties. The state says all remaining program funds will be awarded before the end of the year.

Award amount: $448.0M

What this means for BEAD compliance

ISP subgrantees awarded BEAD funds across the 50 Pennsylvania counties named in this initial $448M allocation, as well as providers awaiting award decisions in the remaining counties before year-end.

Execution of these subgrants triggers active_deployment obligations including matching fund documentation, labor and prevailing wage compliance, BABA equipment certification, cybersecurity/SCRM equipment prohibitions, and semi-annual/periodic reporting clocks to PBDA and NTIA. Awardees must begin tracking construction permits, procurement records, and performance milestones (speed, latency, CAI service) immediately, since noncompliance at this stage risks clawback or special award conditions. Providers not yet named should monitor the year-end award timeline for their service area eligibility and prepare required certifications (SCRM, BABA, labor plans) in advance of execution.

Opportunity: Providers in Pennsylvania counties not yet covered by this initial round can prepare applications for the remaining BEAD funds the state intends to award before year-end 2026.
