Pennsylvania awards $448 million in first round of BEAD broadband grants
Gov. Josh Shapiro announced Pennsylvania has awarded more than $448 million in BEAD funding to projects across 50 counties, expected to connect about 71,000 homes and businesses. The award follows NTIA's April approval of the state's $711 million BEAD proposal.
Award amount: $448.0M
What this means for BEAD compliance
ISPs awarded BEAD subgrants in Pennsylvania's first funding round, as well as Pennsylvania BEAD program staff overseeing those projects.
Execution of these subgrant awards activates active_deployment obligations for the winning ISPs, including labor and prevailing wage compliance, BABA equipment certification, environmental/tribal clearance where applicable, and semi-annual/periodic reporting on location and funding data. The 25% non-federal match requirement must be documented and maintained from this point forward, and awardees should expect progressive monitoring and subgrantee data comparison checks from the state administrator. Compliance officers at awarded ISPs should immediately stand up tracking for reporting cadences and procurement/labor documentation, since failure to meet these newly triggered obligations risks clawback or award rescission.
