NTIA orders states to recheck BEAD satellite awards after FCC map update

The NTIA has asked several state broadband offices to review previously approved satellite internet locations under BEAD after the FCC's July 1 update to its Broadband Serviceable Location Fabric flagged some as potentially ineligible. A New York Law School analysis estimates roughly 35% of BEAD locations awarded for LEO satellite service, about 312,000 locations, could become ineligible, reducing satellite funding by an estimated $354 million, with Colorado and Louisiana among states confirming they received the request.
