NTIA opens second BEAD funding round using ~$21B in program savings for unserved locations
NTIA released a BEAD Supplemental Deployment Policy Notice on September 3, 2026, letting states, territories, and DC tap leftover BEAD savings to address locations left unserved due to program defaults, provider misreporting, or FCC map changes. Compliance with the new guidance is expected to add nine months or more to states' BEAD timelines, giving ISPs a new but delayed opportunity to bid on remaining unserved locations.
