NTIA asks states to review satellite BEAD locations after FCC map update changes eligibility

NTIA has told several state broadband offices that some previously approved satellite (LEO) internet locations under BEAD must be reviewed after the FCC updated its Broadband Serviceable Location Fabric and National Broadband Map on July 1, 2026. States that cannot show flagged locations remain eligible must remove them via a post-award change request, while a New York Law School analysis estimated the change could cut satellite BEAD awards by roughly a third on average across states, with Colorado and Louisiana confirming they received the NTIA request.
